Follow Your Dreams
This post is going to be a little more personal than most, and the reason I am doing it because I want to encourage others to follow your dreams, and the only way I can do that is by sharing a bit of personal history.
I’ve been interested in interior design for as long as I can remember, but ended up getting a degree in Humanities with an English emphasis the first time I was in school. That was followed by being a stay-at-home mom for the next fifteen years with reading as many books on interior design as I possibly could, as well as subscribing to any and all shelter magazines. When my marriage ended, I decided the time was either now or never to pursue this dream, so I enrolled at Utah State two weeks before the Fall semester was about to start. I hadn’t really done any research–other than the fact that I knew the interior design program at Utah State University was accredited, and that’s all I cared about.
Just Go For It
I will do other posts about applying to an interior design program, accreditation of interior design programs, etc., but for now, all I want to say is that if you’ve had a dream or a goal to do something in life that you’ve always wanted to do, but were too scared to do it, then I want to tell you to just do it. I spent years and years wanting to do this, and I’m so glad I finally just decided to take the leap. It is scary and challenging and one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done, but it’s also rewarding and exciting and so fulfilling! I am in no way an established interior designer YET, but I am on the path to becoming one.
Create The Life You Want
There is a great quote by George Bernard Shaw that says, “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” I think we all need to keep reminding ourselves of that fact. Life is full of choices, and every choice we make determines the outcome of our life. Make choices that create the life you want!
If you want some inspiration, there is a great book called Write it Down, Make it Happen by Henriete Anne Klauser that really helps with positive thinking and goal setting.
