Hygge

Doing research for one of my projects, I came across a Danish word called Hygge.  Because my heritage is Danish, I admit that I immediately perk up and pay attention to anything Danish.  Hygge is a feeling or mood that comes from taking genuine pleasure in everyday things so they seem extraordinary–things like lingering over a meal with family or friends; lighting candles; enjoying a cup of coffee; watching a storm.

It means creating rituals out of the ordinary and making daily tasks an art form.  That idea seems so important in today’s social-media driven world.  I know I’m going to try and start living that way in my life–I think we can all benefit from lifestyle habits of the happiest country in the world!

If you want to learn more, I found a fabulous blog that explains it more.  You can find it here.
