City By The Sea
Once upon a time during a period called the The Gilded Age, Newport, Rhode Island became the go-to destination for the nation’s wealthiest families to build their Summer “cottages” facing the sea with such unique names as The Breakers, The Elms, Rosecliff, Kingscote and Land’s End.
As much as I am in awe of the impressive mansions that dot the coast, what amazes me most is the picturesque location of the residents who are lucky enough to live there year round. There is nothing more romantic than the idea of living on the coast, and Newport, Rhode Island, looks ideal.
My family was lucky enough to have a family reunion in Castine, Maine (near Acadia National Park) a few years ago, but I think Rhode Island definitely needs to be added to the wish list!
Just doing a little Summer dreaming….Do you ever do that? What places are on your dream vacation lists?
