I don’t think I ever appreciated having my own home until I didn’t have one anymore. When I was going through my divorce and had gone back to school, I lived with my parents for four years. It was very strange after being an adult on my own for such a long time, but it was something that needed to happen to get me on the path I am today. I am forever grateful to my parents for taking me in, but it was while I was living with them that I had the strongest yearning to have my own home again. I remember constantly dreaming and planning my future home and all the plans I wanted to make.
As an interior designer, I’ve been taught elements and principles of design in order to successfully create interiors. What I didn’t learn in school, however, is how to create a home. Homes are more than just great architecture and design. Homes also need love, families, care, traditions, memories, laughter and tears. Now that I’m back in my own home again, I’m experiencing all that again.
