When I was growing up, we lived far away from extended family so I didn’t get to see my grandparents very much. Likewise, when I was newly married and having babies, I lived far away from my parents as well because of school and jobs. Having lived apart from my family for so long has given me an even greater appreciation of living near them. Now that my family lives in Utah, we’re able to live near my parents again and it’s wonderful! The girls were able to have a grandparent weekend–something we could never could do before.
Has your family ever had a grandparent weekend? Family relationships are so important, and it’s so great for grandparents to be able to spend time with their grandchildren and grandchildren with their grandparents. I never had a grandparent weekend when I was growing up, but I was able to when I was in college and that time was precious to me. I’m so glad we live closer to my parents so my girls can experience that as well. My parents took the girls out to dinner, did crafts with them, baked with them, and watched movies. They had so much fun, and I hope we can do it more.
Andy and I went up to my parents’ house on Sunday night to pick the girls up and have dinner with them. My cute Mom read my earlier blog post about Mix and Match Your Table. She decided to use some linens and dishes she never had before. My mother’s one of my greatest inspirations, so I’m happy I had even the slightest influence on her!
