If you keep up with any kind of social media or reality TV, it’s easy to think life should be full of over-the-top parties, vacations, and new houses and cars. For most people, however, life is just day-to-day living, working, and loving. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older, or because my personal life has changed so much, but I find myself appreciating the rhythm and routine of everyday life. Mindful homemaking is something I’ve been trying to be more conscious of in my own life.
A few weeks ago, I had another life-altering experience happen to me. As my family and I have had to learn to adjust to a new way of living, I’ve found myself evaluating life and what’s important. Just like in the past when significant events have happened, my family and my home mean the most to me. They’re what I cling to and where I put my focus. When I’m being mindful about taking care of my home and family, I’m aware of the impact it’s having on their lives and my own. If I can make our home life the best it can be, nothing else matters. We have love, each other, and our home.
This year for my birthday, my Mom gave me a beautiful vintage embroidered table runner because she knows how much I love that kind of thing. I used it for the first time on Mother’s Day weekend, and it made me so happy! Just the act of laying it out on our table for a special occasion for my family meant so much to me! I have everything I want and need in life!
