Striped Blue and White Summer Placemats
This year seems to be the Summer of stripes for me! I bought some ticking fabric to do one project and ended up using it for multiple projects because I love it so much! Blue and white stripes are a classic color combination and very popular for Summer–especially at beach and lake houses. Ticking comes in other striped color combinations as well–brown, grey, red, or yellow on a neutral background. I used the ticking fabric to create striped blue and white Summer placemats that can be used all season long.
If you’ve never heard of ticking fabric before, it’s considered a utility cloth that was originally used to cover mattresses and bed pillows. It’s woven tightly for durability to keep down feathers from poking through. Nowdays, it’s used by a lot of interior designers for its farmhouse and homespun aesthetic. It can be used to upholster furniture, as tablecloths, or even as basket liners. I made placemats out of the fabric to give a more casual Summer look to my table.
If you’re looking for fun ideas for your Memorial Day or Fourth of July Table, these ticking placemats are perfect! They can easily be paired with red plates or glasses, or you can do an all blue and white tablescape. They also look great with yellow as a color combination to use all Summer long. Not only are they versatile, but you can throw them in the wash after each use!
