Do you ever watch something and realize how dated it is because nobody does things like that anymore? Last night we were watching a movie that was made in the mid-80’s. It was about high school kids, and one scene showed a school hallway where a sign was hanging advertising a meeting for future homemakers. I was probably the only one who even noticed it, but it caught my eye because I don’t think high schools promote that kind of thing anymore.
Nobody grows up wanting to be a homemaker because it’s looked down upon. Schools don’t have classes or majors teaching home economics anymore. Sadly, many homemakers are clueless knowing how to manage a home and don’t have the necessary skills to make it successful. One of my good friends, Brenda, left this comment for me on one of my blog posts about homemaking: “I’m saddened by the loss of homemakers & homemaking in our society. As a past Home Economics teacher, it is hard to realize a time when we need homemaking skills so much, there is very little formal education available. I fear sewing will soon be a lost art (as many hand sewing forms already are). Thanks for promoting this great set of skills.”
Our society needs homemakers just as much, or MORE, than we need people in every field. C.S. Lewis states it best when he says: “Homemaking is surely in reality the most important work in the world. What do ships, railways, mines, cars, government exist for except that people may be fed, warm and safe in their own homes? The homemaker’s job is the one for which all other’s exist.” As a homemaker, you have the most important job in the world. Be proud to be a homemaker! Choose to be a homemaker! Nothing else is as important as the environment you create nor the influence you have! Why not be the best at what you do?
