What Do You Know About Homemaking?
I have to admit when I got married, I didn’t know very much about homemaking. My mother and grandmothers were all good examples, but watching and doing are two very different things! How many of you have experienced this? What do you know about homemaking? When I tried setting up my first house, it was so overwhelming! All of a sudden I was in charge of cooking, cleaning, laundry, interior design, meal planning, maintenance, and childcare (when they came along). Since all I’d ever done was occasionally babysit and clean my room, I didn’t know how to do it all! Unfortunately, a lot of women feel this way when they’re thrust into a role they’re not prepared for. There just isn’t a lot of homemaking skills being taught today to prepare women (and men) for this role.
Why I Started Wilma
In my career as an interior designer, I realized that I had knowledge that I could share with others. Obviously, interior design is just one small part of what it takes to create home, but it’s an important part! My design knowledge and skill combined with my passion for homemaking inspired me to start Wilma, a monthly magazine dedicated to women like you who want to learn how to become better homemakers. Watching my own daughters grow up and on the verge of starting their own homes, I realized a need for teaching basic skills to create home. Wilma Magazine and The Homemakers Guide are all wonderful tools to help homemakers in this role.
