Frankenstein Halloween Printable
I’ve always loved the story of Frankenstein (remember my blog post, Frankenstein and Me?) When I saw the quote below, it inspired me to create a Frankenstein Halloween printable. The story of Frankenstein is such a tragic and heart wrenching love story. I recently learned that the author, Mary Shelley, used aspects of her own life as inspiration. She kept her dead husband’s heart for almost thirty years. After her death in 1851, the heart was found in a desk drawer wrapped in one of her husband’s poems. It’s one of those situations where you wonder which one is more bizarre–real life or the actual story? Spooky!
Origins of Frankenstein
When I was a student at Utah State a few years ago, I was sitting in a class for students who would be studying abroad to Switzerland. The graphics design professor dimmed the lights, turned on some spooky sound effects and told us the back story of how Frankenstein came to be. It was written when the writer, Mary Shelley, was staying in Geneva, Switzerland with her husband the poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley. It was a very rainy Summer and each would take turns reading ghost stories aloud. One day they challenged each other to write their own ghostly tale and Frankenstein was born. I was later able to travel to Switzerland on a study abroad trip and see the location where the story was born…it’s always been a favorite of mine!
