Home Is Not A Building
I recently figured out that I’ve lived in 16 homes in my life, averaging a move every 2.6 years. That’s a lot of moving and a lot of homes! I’m sure you’re wondering why I even figured that out, but I was curious. Thinking back, I can’t really remember any of them not feeling like home. That sounds kind of odd because you would think it would take a lot of time for someplace to feel like home. Maybe it’s because I’ve moved around so much, but I’ve realized something. Home is not a building–it’s whatever you create with loved ones!
The Turnaround House
Whenever I think of my past homes, what I remember the most about them is the experiences shared there with my family. My brain doesn’t focus on the daily activities so much as it remembers the feelings of love, comfort, and acceptance. My most recent move was to our little farmhouse about 2 years ago. As much as I love this little house, I realize the house is not what makes me happy. It’s the experiences my family shares while we’re in the house together. We would be just as happy anywhere, however. The important thing to remember is that while we’re caretakers of our home, and feel privileged to live here and be a part of it, home is wherever we’re together.
I started Creating Home because I believe people still crave meaning and purpose in life.
