I’m always amazed at the power of emotions that images can evoke. Like most designers, I use a lot of imagery for inspiration to design with a concept. When working on Wilma Magazine’s November edition of the magazine, I was looking at vintage Thanksgiving pictures to help with my design concept on how to have a meaningful Thanksgiving. Sometimes I’ll find an image and am immediately drawn to it, although I don’t always know why. Maybe it’s because in today’s social media-driven world where we’re constantly bombarded by flashy images, I find such joy, peace, and happiness in the simplicity of older images. They invoke a simpler, slower, more purpose-driven life that I try and convey in my work–especially Wilma Magazine. The images shown on the November mood board above were all used as inspiration in the Thanksgiving issue of Wilma.
