A Christmas Story
Have you ever thought back to your most memorable Christmas? Usually it’s not presents or something that you received that stands out the most. Often it’s something else that makes one Christmas more memorable than most. I want to share with you a Christmas story of my own that’s far more different than any Christmas I’ve ever experienced before.
Some of you know a little of my history. When my first marriage ended, I moved across country and back in with my parents who were living in northern Utah. I was going through a divorce and trying to get custody of my kids at the same time that I was also going back to school. It was an incredibly stressful and difficult time in my life. My husband, Andy, was also going through a terrible divorce at the time. Luckily we had each other to lean on when things were so bleak.
That first Christmas I wasn’t able to be with my children and neither was Andy. We decided to spend Christmas together in Andy’s fifth wheel where he was living in Elko, Nevada. There were no presents and no Christmas tree that year–only the love of two people going through horrible experiences. We decided to go up the canyon to take a Winter walk. It was bitterly cold and snowy but so peaceful and still. There wasn’t anyone around except the two of us. It was such a surreal day and one I will always remember. I learned that Christmas wasn’t about presents and trees (as nice as they are), but more about love and family. As hard as it was, I can look back and appreciate it because of what I learned and realized.
No matter what kind of Christmas you have, I hope you have love because that’s all that really matters!
I’d love to hear about your most memorable Christmas!
Thank you for stopping by!
