“Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were–Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. ” Those are the opening lines of Beatrix Potter’s Beatrix Potter the Complete Tales (Peter Rabbit). It’s a delightful children’s book about a mischievous young bunny who has adventures in Mr. McGregor’s garden. I always think of this cute little story whenever Spring arrives. In fact, my Easter home decor reflects it with little bunnies I’ve named after those characters.
Creativity and Imagination
What I love about Beatrix Potter’s stories is how she was such a proponent of imagination and creativity. Because she was home-schooled by a governess, she never went to public school–something she was grateful for because she said it would have rubbed off some of her originality. She was greatly influenced by fairy tales and fantasy, and her books contain a rich world of charming characters and narratives. Although her stories aren’t necessarily for Easter, some of them take place in the Spring and are especially delightful this time of year.
Whenever I think of ways of decorating my home for Easter, I always include some bunnies in honor of this favorite story. I’m also sharing some cute Easter finds in the widget below. Finally, if you’re looking for more Easter resources, the March issue of Wilma Magazine has an Easter article on tablescapes using a Spring cloche as a centerpiece. There’s also blog articles from last year featuring more Easter table ideas that you can find here, here, and here.
