I did something this week that I haven’t done before–I completely unplugged from the world. I deleted all social media apps from my phone and didn’t get on any news sites all week. I accidentally got on Facebook once in the last seven days because I kept getting emails about my sisters posting something that I thought I was tagged in, but they hadn’t. Facebook was just trying to lure me back! I’m sure you’re wondering why I did this, and to tell you honestly, I felt like I’ve lost my voice. Being saturated with so many outside influences really confused me and made me lose my way.
I know that sounds silly and trite to say, but it’s true. I found myself on my phone constantly–looking to be entertained, influenced, or just scrolling mindlessly for no reason. I never had time for my own thoughts or daydreams because every second of nothing, I was on my phone. First thing in the morning, I was on my phone. Last thing before bed, I was on my phone. I wanted to find myself again and realized I just needed to put away my phone. As wonderful as phones are with the information they can share and the connections they make, sometimes it’s nice to set them aside.
Don’t get me wrong, it was really hard! I feel so out of it now and don’t know what’s going on in the world or the lives of my friends and family. I won’t do this forever, but until I can find a comfortable boundary, I’m keeping my distance for now. It’s been nice to have moments of nothing but just thoughts again.
Because of my social media break, I won’t be posting Facebook links to new blog posts. If you’re really interested in Creating Home’s blog, you can just come here directly to find new posts.
Have a great weekend, my friends!
Thanks for your friendship and support!
