First Autumn Weekend

First Autumn Weekend

First Autumn Weekend

I know most people consider Labor Day weekend to be the last true weekend of Summer.  I like to consider it the first Autumn weekend of the year.  Probably because my heart belongs to Autumn, I want it to get here as fast as possible.  As soon as September 1 arrives, I it’s Autumn in my mind.

Over the weekend, I put away my Summer clothes, got out my pumpkin spice scented candles, and sent out the Autumn issue of Wilma Magazine.  It truly made my heart happy!  Something else I like to do at the beginning of Autumn is make homemade doughnuts.  It wasn’t the most successful doughnut making experience, but it worked out in the end.  I started making them at 4 PM while Andy worked on dinner.  The first attempt at getting the yeast to work failed because the yeast had expired so Andy went to the store to get more.  I made two more attempts and couldn’t get anything to work, so Andy tried as well.  On the fourth attempt, we got the yeast to work and finished making the doughnuts at 10 PM Sunday night.

I made dark chocolate and maple glaze, and they tasted yummy!  By the way, if you’re looking for a fryer to make homemade doughnuts, we love the T-Fal Deep Fryer with Basket, Oil Fryer with Oil Filtration, Easy to Clean, 2.6 Pounds, Silver from Amazon.  We got it last year and use it for doughnuts, french fries, corn dogs, and so forth.  It doesn’t make the whole house smell like oil, and the clean-up is really easy!

Finally, if you’re looking for some great entertaining ideas with doughnuts and this time of year, check out last year’s October issue of Wilma Magazine.  There’s even a spooky story I made up that you can use as you tell scary stories around the camp fire while eating homemade doughnuts.

I’d love to hear what you did over Labor Day weekend!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Have a great day!
