My Dream Home
When someone describes their dream home, usually it’s something grand, large, or at least high-end. I should know, because I design those kinds of houses all the time for my clients. They’re really beautiful and appealing on so many levels, and I can definitely see myself living in one of them. But if I’m completely honest with myself, the image above represents my true dream home. The older I get, the more simply I want to live away from the world out in nature.
Don’t get me wrong–I love spacious luxurious homes just as much as the next person. But as I’ve been living in 1900 square feet of space in a 100 year old farmhouse for the past few years, I’ve found it refreshingly pleasant. I love how small and cozy the rooms are, and it helps me not to accumulate stuff because there’s no place to put it.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been designing our future mountain cabin. I finished the floor plan and loved it, but as I was designing the exterior elevations, it wasn’t looking the way I wanted it to. I’m working on a second floor plan now to see if I can get the floor plan and exterior the way I want it. Whenever I look at images of cabins for inspiration, I keep coming back to the one above. I love how small, simple, square, and symmetrical it is. I’ve been having so much fun designing it, that someone I work with asked me to help design her house as well.
What’s your dream house?
As always, thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day!
