I just started a new-build project for a client’s home here in Utah with LIV Design Collective. During our meeting, I could tell the client was getting overwhelmed with all the choices and decisions she was having to make. Regardless of the size, designing a home out of nothing is a huge process! When I suggested to the client that I could put everything together for her and make all the selections, she was immediately relieved.
I know a lot of people mistakenly believe that interior design is just about selecting a few throw pillows and paint colors, but it’s so much more! Especially on new-build projects, every detail of the home has to be selected and work together. That includes everything from flooring to tile, counter tops, hardware, cabinetry, and lighting (to name a few). My favorite projects are the ones where I’m involved from start to finish through the whole design process.
Design can be a messy process, but once everything comes together at the end, it’s beautiful. I love the quote by John Saladino that explains the reasoning behind design: “A house is much more than a shelter, it should lift us emotionally and physically.” It definitely takes more than just selecting a paint color to create something that will shelter a family emotionally and physically. An Interior designer must absorb the essence of the project to create a home that’s beautiful, functional, safe, and nurturing. Design is a creative challenge, and I’m so glad I get to do it everyday.
Finally, if you’re interested in becoming an interior designer yourself, check out my book, So You Want To Be An Interior Designer: Interior Design School Handbook. I share my story and journey as well!
As always, thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day!
