Hanging Pictures Like A Pro
Last night I was in a traffic accident driving home from work. I’m fine besides some minor personal injuries, but my car was totaled. Sitting in the back of the cop car while everything was getting taken care of (it was a three car pile up), I told the policeman I was an interior designer. He told me how he and his wife bought a new house three years ago, but they hadn’t hung any pictures because neither one of them knew how to hang hang them. All of the pictures were just sitting on the floor leaning against the wall in the spots they wanted them. Ironically enough, today’s blog post is a guide on how to hang pictures. I couldn’t make this story up if I wanted to because this really did happen.
The biggest problem with hanging pictures is that people hang them too high. We always tell our client to hang pictures at eye level so the center of the artwork is ~57. from the floor” If you are hanging artwork above the sofa, hang it 6-8″ from the top of the sofa to the bottom of the frame. And if you are trying to figure what size artwork to hang over the sofa, it should be 1/2 – 2/3 the size of the sofa for good proportions.
Feel free to use the above guide as a how-to-guide.
Have a great weekend!
