Joys Of Living In A Small House
“Love grows best in little houses, with fewer walls to separate. Where you eat and sleep so close together, you can’t help but communicate. And if we had more rooms between us, think of all we’d miss. Love grows best in houses like this.”–Doug Stone
I moved from a 6000+ square foot house to a 1900 square foot house last year when we moved to The Turnaround House. I thought it would be a difficult adjustment, but it’s actually quite refreshing. As much as I love the idea of a big house with lots of space, the reality is so much different with all of the maintenance, upkeep and cleaning. When you have a big house, it’s easy to collect “stuff” to fill it. Now I find I have to be very particular about what I bring into the house because there’s not very much room, and if something is coming in, something has to go out. What I do have, I need to really love and have it be useful.
The best thing about our farmhouse, though, is that since there aren’t a lot of rooms, we spend more time together because we are always together. There’s something special about living small and sharing everything.
The Turnaround House is finally done (aside from the cleanup we still have to do). What do you think?!?
