“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”–John F. Kennedy
We took this picture last year as a nod to the famous Norman Rockwell painting called “Freedom From Want” or what it’s more commonly known as “The Thanksgiving Picture.” It’s the single most recognizable picture associated with Thanksgiving, but did you know it also has a deeper and more political meaning?
It’s actually the third in a series of paintings called “The Freedom Series” inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt’s State of the Union Address in 1941 to boost patriotism before the Second World War when loss was so prominent. Not only were families thankful for the food on the table, but they were especially thankful to still have each other.
It’s important to be thankful at this time of year, but it’s more important to help others have something to be thankful for as well.
You can see my other post about the Norman Rockwell painting from Thanksgiving here.
I hope your Thanksgiving preparations are going well!
