The Witching Hour

The Witching Hour

The Witching Hour

“There’s a chill in the air.
The wind blows gently.
The leaves rustle and move.
The night is dark and the moon is full.

A dog barks in the distance.
A cat yowls to herald the coming night.
Lights go on at every house.
It’s almost the witching hour.

Then they appear,
All manner of ghosts, witches, and goblins.
I hear their screams and shrill laughter.

The door bell rings.
Do I answer?  Do I dare?
What will await me if I do?

The doorbell persists.
I take a chance.
My eyes are wide and a reframe rings out,
‘TRICK or TREAT,’ it’s Halloween night.”
