Wilma Comes To Life
I was in my twenties and had my own little family when my grandmother, Wilma, died. In fact, all of my grandparents died when I was younger, so the only thing I really have are memories and some pictures. As a child, I never really appreciated my grandparents or got to know them like I should have. In fact, when I started Wilma Magazine, one of the reasons I named it after my grandmother was because I wanted to get to know her better. You can imagine my surprise and happiness when I found a VHS tape my dad recorded a long time ago of my grandparents talking about their family history! Being able to hear and watch my grandma speak was like watching Wilma come to life again.
The Best Intentions
I’m so glad my dad recorded my grandparents sharing their family history. I know today it’s no big deal to record anything, but back then, it took more effort. I shared this story in Wilma Magazine, but I accidentally recorded over a part of that video when I was in middle school. It was dinner time, and I didn’t want to miss an episode of Three’s Company, so I hit record on whatever tape happened to be in the VCR. Unfortunately, it was this family history tape. Since I haven’t seen the tape since I was a kid (until now), I didn’t know what portion I had accidentally recorded over. It turns out it was the part when my dad was sharing his memories. To this day, I’m sick about it and wish that never would have happened!
Have a great day!
