I saw a photo the other day of someone’s table setting with a simply prepared meal, a little centerpiece, and a book turned over next to the place setting. It wasn’t anything grand or extravagant, but I found myself staring at it for a long time. Somebody had taken the time to prepare themselves a delicious meal and took extra care to set a pretty place setting, even though it was for only for themselves. I know whenever I’m going to eat alone, I never go to any trouble. Most of the time it’s just microwaving some leftovers or having a bowl of cereal. I love that this person put as much effort into a meal for herself that she would have if she had several people to feed.
My favorite blog posts or social media posts are the ones that offer a glimpse into someone’s home life. It’s not that I want to be particularly voyeuristic, but home life has always fascinated me, so if someone is offering me a peak, I relish it. I find myself taking in every detail of what I can see. It’s a lot of fun to look at clues for how someone lives. Is their home messy or clean? What kinds of books do they read? What kind of artwork is hanging?
As an interior designer, I spend a lot of time inside people’s homes, and I’ve gotten pretty good at reading people based on what’s in their home and how they live. Homes are definitely a reflection of the people who live there. What is your home saying about you?
Until next time, thanks for stopping by!
Have a great week!
