About this time of year after the excitement of the holidays have come and gone, it’s easy to get depressed. I always think of the song, In The Bleak Midwinter, because that’s exactly how it feels–bleak. One way I try and fight those dark moods is by using fresh greens and lots of candlelight to create a Winter centerpiece.
Greenery can be used all year long, and not just at Christmastime. When you’re taking down Christmas decorations, keep the greenery around a little longer, if you can. The scents of Balsam, Fir, and Pine are Winter scents and can be used up until Spring.
This Winter centerpiece is made up of some pine branches found in my backyard with some white tapers and a European dough bowl. You can use any kind of container for an arrangement like this. It’s simple, easy, and provides a little bit of cheer and glow during the dark Winter months.
“In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan
Earth stood hard as iron
Water like a stone
Snow had fallen
Snow on snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter
Long, long ago.” ~~Gustav Holst
As always, thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day!
