There’s nothing quite like homemade. In fact, one of my goals for this year is to try and make more hand-made items instead of just buying them. It really cuts down on the temptation to buy something because if I want it badly enough, I’m going to try and make it. These hearts on a string are a perfect example.
My Mom is my biggest inspiration for ideas like this. Every year for a lot of the holidays, she makes little stitcheries for her kids, grand kids, and friends. Even though I don’t do that, I like to think I’ve inherited a love for homemade from her.
Since I don’t have any Valentine’s Day decorations, I wanted to make something for the holiday. I’ve realized how much it helps coping with Winter if there’s a change in the home, no matter how small it is. Because I don’t want any thing big or bulky to store all year, I decided to make these fabric hearts. They can store flat and won’t take up any room at all.
Best of all, I used some vintage fabric scraps that my Mom gave me!
I always think of my Mom when I read this quote, “It is not the things you have that make you happy. It is love and kindness and helping each other and just plain being good.” ~~Laura Ingalls Wilder
What about you? Do you decorate for holidays like Valentine’s Day?
As always, thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day!
