Mountain House Nestled Among The Pine Trees

Mountain House Nestled Among The Pine Trees

Last week, we went up to our new property in Tollgate Canyon with our architect and draftsman. I used to work with Bryan at my previous place of employment, and we’ve remained friends since then. He’s kindly agreed to help us with our home! He’s taking my house design and going to do the site plan and construction documents for us. We were up at the property deciding on where the best place is for the home to be placed. We’re finally going to have a mountain house nestled among the pine trees!

We’ve got two acres of land, but some of it isn’t usable because we’ve got a steep slope that rises up in our back yard (one of my favorites parts of the land). We want to avoid cutting down any trees that aren’t necessary, so Bryan helped us map out where everything’s going to go. We decided that the front of the house will face NE at 50 degrees so our front yard will be a mountain face. Eventually we’d like to add a greenhouse to our property because the growing season is so short up there, but that will come later. Right now we’re focused on the house and the garage. Because of the sloped land, we’ll have to do a lot of dirt work first and then get water and septic installed.

It’s very surreal to be able to design your own home and then be a part of the construction process as it’s being built! It’s a really exciting (and scary) time. Have I mentioned we’ll be living in Andy’s 5th wheel while the house is being built?!? Oh well! It will all be worth it in the end! Finally, if you’d like to learn more about where we’ll be living, check out this YouTube video by one of our new neighbors (who also happens to be a realtor up there).
