One of the best parts about living in Utah is the cool mornings and evenings. Growing up in Texas, that never happened–it was just varying degrees of hot and humid. In the evenings here in Bountiful, however, there’s a cool mountain breeze so it’s a great time to lie on our hammock and do absolutely nothing. Having a Type A personality means that’s very hard for me to do, though. If I’m not being productive in some way, I feel guilty. I have to keep telling myself there’s nothing wrong with taking advantage of lazy Summer days because they won’t be around for long. It’s hard to believe that Summer is half over already!
Midsummer is when our raspberries and blackberries are ripe enough to eat. When I’m lying on the hammock eating berries, I put my phone away and just let my mind wander like I used to as a child. It’s fun to let my imagination go as I watch the sunlight seep through the leaves of the trees. Usually I’m thinking about what new projects I want to start, or things I want to do. If I stay there long enough, though, eventually my mind settles down and I start enjoying just BEING.
Being a Southern girl, I grew up with the “Dolly” culture and love this quote by her:
“NEVER GET SO BUSY MAKING A LIVING, THAT YOU FORGET TO MAKE A LIFE.” ~~Dolly Parton
Great advice for all of us! Thanks, Dolly!
As always, thanks for stopping by!
Have a great day!
