Autumn Hike In The Mountains

Autumn Hike In The Mountains

On Saturday, we decided to go to our property and go on an Autumn hike in the mountains.  The “back yard” of our property goes straight up, so it’s quite a steep hike.  There are some sections that have animal trails that we can follow with switch backs, and other sections without a path.  We love the mountain that’s going to be behind our house and can’t wait to explore it more.  It was the first time we’d actually made it to the top, and we even saw an elk, but it left before I could get a picture.

There aren’t too many more days where we can take hikes like this.  Pretty soon the snow will be here and the landscape will look completely different.  Even though it’s only mid-October, we’ve already passed the peak season for colorful leaves.  The stage of vivid red, orange, and yellow leaves has passed and now we’re in the phase of dull muted colors with a lot of the leaves already on the ground.

“Wild is the music of of the Autumnal winds amongst the faded woods.”  ~~William Wordsworth

We saw the moose at our rental property before we left, and the family of deer as we were driving to the property.  We feel so lucky that we live in this beautiful setting!  Everyone up on the mountain has been busily getting ready for Winter.  Everyday when I’m on my walk with Aries, we can smell wood smoke from all the chimneys and hear the sound of chainsaws cutting more firewood.  Andy has been cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood for weeks now.  The furnace has been installed at the rental cabin and the propane tank has been filled.  I guess we’re as ready as we can be.
