Never Thought I’d Need An Outhouse

Never Thought I'd Need An Outhouse

This is one of those stories that is much funnier to share after the fact than it is while it’s occurring.  Last Thursday evening when Andy was out of town, I was doing laundry and watching a Hallowe’en movie.  Because the washing machine was loudly spinning, I closed the bathroom/laundry door so I could hear the movie.  I didn’t know it at the time, but a screw on the doorknob was loose, so when I tried to open the door again, it wouldn’t open.  The knob would turn, but the door wouldn’t budge.  I thought the door was stuck.  After some time and the panic set in, I realized I had to use the bathroom and my only option was going outside.  I never thought I’d need an outhouse!

The temperature was in the 20’s that night so I put my coat and shoes on and headed outside.  It was so dark and cold!  Because I was scared of wild animals, I stayed pretty close to the house.  I had two trips to the great outdoors before Andy got home at 10:30 that night.  He just used his screw driver to tighten the knob and then it worked again.  I felt pretty stupid after that, but I’m not the handiest person so my thought direction didn’t even go there.  Needless to say, I was so glad this happened on the night he was coming home instead of the night he left.  I probably would have had to ask a neighbor to help me get into the bathroom!

By the way, this picture is from our rental cabin.  One morning I looked out the front door and saw this cute little squirrel trying to get a drink from Aries’ water bowl.  He must not have known it was frozen right away!  Every morning when we wake up, all of the water from his water bowl is gone so animals are drinking it at night.  This mountain life is definitely full of adventures!

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Have a great day!
