A Cat And A Dog

A Cat And A Dog

Since we no longer have kids in the house, our attention mostly centers on our two pets, Sochi and Aries.  You might wonder at a cat and a dog having a difficult time living together, and you’d be correct!  They don’t get along at all, and our family time consists of each of them taking turns spending time with us.

Because Sochi (our Russian blue cat) was rescued from living on the streets of Brigham City, she has quite a bit of PTSD.  She spends most of her time in our storage room which has become her safe place.  Her bed is up high, and she has lots of places where she can hide (her preferred activity).  She’s very skittish and feels safest around Andy.  Whenever Aries is outside and Andy is sitting down, she jumps up on him and lays on his chest.  Sochi is gradually getting more used to the cabin and to all of us.  We’ve noticed lately than she immediately knows when Aries goes outside because she’ll slowly creep out of her room to look around.  She gets scared very easily, and if anybody makes the slightest movement, she runs as fast as she can back to her room.

Aries (our Siberian Husky) desperately wants to play with Sochi, but she wants nothing to do with him.  He’s constantly laying in front of the storage room door waiting for her to come out.  Sometimes when he’s outside, he peeks in the door and sees her walking around the cabin, and it drives him crazy.  He immediately wants to come inside and bother her.

Andy and I joke all the time that it’s like having two toddlers who don’t know how to get along.  We’re always telling Aries to leave Sochi alone, and telling Sochi that Aries won’t hurt her.  Maybe one of these days they’ll actually be able to get along and be in the same room at the same time.  Anybody else have a cat and a dog?  I’d love to hear about your experiences with them.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Have a great day!
