Perc Test

Perc Test

Well, we our property passed the Perc test!  All counties in the state of Utah require that the soil be tested before a septic system can be installed.  Basically, it tests liquid absorption of the soil so there are no problems when the septic system is installed.  Andy and I went to the property two days this week.  The first day, they dug the hole, and the second day, the inspector came to do several water absorption tests.  It was good to meet the inspector as well as the contractor so we’re not just names on a paper.

We’re also so glad we could squeeze in this one step before Winter hits.  We’re meeting with a potential builder on Friday of this week.  We’ve got a couple recommendations from people who’ve recently built up here, and this man’s name was recommended by several people (including two realtors up here).  We like the fact that this builder also lives up here in Tollgate Canyon.  Because of the climate, road conditions, and mountain terrain, it’s just a whole different level of building up here.  Our preference is for the builder to be a resident up here, but we’ll meet with several to make sure we get the right person for the job.

Building is going to be a long slow process, but hopefully we’ll get through it!  Neither one of us has ever built a home from scratch before, so it’s definitely going to be a learning process for both of us.  Wish us luck!!
