Enjoying Winter

Enjoying Winter

I was a little worried about how difficult Winter would be after the Christmas holidays.  Once the excitement and business has passed, the rest of Winter is usually hard to endure.  When we lived in the Salt Lake Valley, Winter was especially tough because of the inversion.  Sometimes we wouldn’t see the sun for weeks.  Up here in the higher elevation, though, the sun is always out unless it’s stormy.  I’ve been pleasantly surprised how much I’m enjoying Winter.  I have to give credit to Andy, though.  He does all the hard work to make it easy and enjoyable for me!

It also helps that I’ve gotten the appropriate outerwear.  I don’t do daily walks like I used to, but if the temperatures are above freezing, it’s nice to get outside.  Aries absolutely loves the snow and is so happy when I take him out.  These pictures are from a walk we took last week.

There’s a pretty grove of pine trees on some land for sale near the rental cabin.  I love to walk near it because you can’t see any cabins nearby–it feels like you’re completely alone in the world.  The other day I just stood there looking up at the blue sky with the sun warming my face.  I closed my eyes and just listened.  I could hear so many birds flying around, and there must have been a squirrel nearby because I heard the same sound I did during Autumn when they were throwing pine cones down on Aries.  I’m still learning how to identify some animal sounds and tracks.  Andy is a great teacher!

I hope you’re enjoying Winter wherever you are!
