Mountain Living

In The Winter

In The Winter

I’m sure many of you are quite curious about the amount of snowfall we’ve got up here right now.  I haven’t shared a picture of our rental cabin in a while, so I’m attaching a picture so you can see what it looks like in the Winter.  In a lot of the pictures, you can see the snow piled up from the road crews.  I think it’s about 4′-5′ now.  Poor Aries can’t see over the snow mounds, but he has managed to create a path for himself up to the driveway by continuously going over the same area.

I know a lot of my blog posts have centered around Winter, but that’s our life right now.  When you live surrounded by nature at a high elevation, Winter will be all-consuming and long.  Our lives center around the weather!  Each day Andy and I have the same conversation and ask each other if it’s a tractor day (if there’s more than 6″ of new snow to remove), or if it’s a shovel day (less than 6″ of new snow to remove).  Poor Andy does all the snow removal unless he’s out of town.  Then I do the shoveling and a neighbor does the tractoring for me.

These pictures are from a walk that Aries and I took yesterday.  Believe it or not, they were all taken within a few minutes of each other.  When we started out on our walk, it was sunny with blue skies.  By the time we got back, a mountain storm had rolled in and it had started snowing again.  These mountains storms sure do come in quickly!

We’re surviving Winter so far, but admit that we are looking forward to Spring weather.  At least we always have the option of going down into the valley for a break.  And good news–Lagoon opens in two months!
